Aquaculture and Wild Procurement

 

High Liner Foods has recently restructured its Procurement department to better support the growing business needs of the organization resulting from the recent purchase of the Manufacturing and Marketing business of Fishery Products International. We are seeking three individuals who are looking for a challenging career opportunity to complete our professional Procurement team. Based out of our Danvers, Massachusetts facility, these roles will support the requirements of our US business while reporting into our Corporate Procurement division located in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. 

 

We require a Planning Coordinator and a Manager, Quality Development to support aquaculture procurement and a Planning Coordinator for wild procurement.

 

Planning Coordinator

This position is responsible for the effective procurement of quality raw materials and finished products from off-shore seafood suppliers on a timely and cost effective basis meeting production and marketing requirements for aquaculture and wild species.

 

Key Accountabilities:

-       Responsible for the complete ordering process with suppliers from setting up orders, advising suppliers of required shipping plans, confirmation of orders, handling required documents for customs brokers, follow up with Quality Control, and approving invoices from suppliers & forwarding to Accounts Payable for processing.

 

-       Work closely with marketing and sales to ensure that accurate forecasts for procured items are available

 

-       Expedite and reschedule orders according to the MRP system to ensure that our systems have the most current information available, which in turn will let us know when problems may arise through the “missed commitment” process.

 

-       Support & update the Procurement Module information to ensure accuracy & reliability. Participate in the further development & improvement of the Procurement Module. 

 

-       Ensures the timely disposition of rejected products, contacts/arranges for product to be returned to supplier.

 

-       Coordinate & participate in the Sales Planning Meetings which allows for the exchange of information regarding critical items that could impact customer service.

 

-       Provide feedback to management, relating to offshore supplier issues, which will enable us to improve supplier performance.

 

-       Assist Procurement in building strong relationships with reliable suppliers by maintaining effective communications and providing information regarding customers’ needs & requirements to the suppliers.

 

Job Specifications:

-       University degree in business or related field

-       PMAC or APIC certification would be an asset

-       Excellent communication and organization skills

-       Team Player

-       Computer skills – Lotus Notes, Microsoft Office, AS400 platform

 

Manager Quality Development

The Manager Quality Development is responsible for the quality of all procured raw materials and finished products for the aquaculture business.  They provide our suppliers with quality, production and technical support for all seafood products being produced for our US business.  They support the Procurement initiatives by providing marketing with new aqua and agri opportunities to grow their business. 

 

Extensive travel is required to search for products and oversee quality standards around the globe. The individual is responsible for projecting a positive company image while traveling to these foreign locations.

 

Key Accountabilities:

-       Ensure procurement purchases (co packed and raw material for production) meet High Liner standards prior to product arriving at our production facilities in Danvers, MA and Portsmouth, NH facilities.

 

-       Provide quality, technical and production support for producers packing seafood products for High Liner.

 

-       The incumbent will be proactive in looking for cost saving opportunities that will be beneficial to our producers as well as production and marketing.

 

-       The incumbent will be proactive in seeking new product (seafood and other food) ideas for sales and marketing.

 

-       Work with and assist external quality control during inspection of procurement purchases.

 

-       Responsible for all procurement specifications ensuring they meet marketing and production’s needs and are current and approved by High Liner suppliers.

 

-       Ensure all producers are able to provide a C of A for each shipment, confirming the quality meets High Liner standards. The incumbent will be proactive ensuring the CofA’s from our producers accurately represent the quality of each shipment and are received on a timely basis.

 

-       Responsible for annual plant audits for all major suppliers, ensuring producers meet CFIA/FDA and company standards and follow up on recommendations from previous or current audits.  Incumbent is also responsible for maintaining proper documentation for these audits.

 

-       Ensure all program suppliers are aware of and have agreed to adhere (by signature) to the High Liner, Supplier Approval Audit Standards Manual.  Incumbent is responsible to ensure the manual is updated taking into account any changes required by government agencies (i.e. CFIA/FDA) and High Liner.

 

Job Specifications:

-       Bachelor of Science in Food Technology or equivalent experience

-       5 years experience in the seafood industry in a production/quality environment

-       Experience in sensory evaluation

-       HACCP certified

-       Good understanding of GMP

-       Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

-       Analytical skills, statistics, SPC, basic computer skills and familiarity with AS400

-       Excellent interpersonal skills and proven leadership skills

-       Good knowledge of relevant aspects of food processing, company product and process standards, government and corporate quality and safety regulations

-       Adaptable to change, detail oriented, able to manage time and decision making ability

-       Spanish speaking would be an asset
