US Department of Commerce's Recent Decision on Shrimp Anti-Dumping against China and Vietnam.

Bayville, N.J. - On July 2nd the US Department of Commerce made a preliminary decision on shrimp anti-dumping duties against China and Vietnam that was announced on July 6th.

Urner Barry’s average white shrimp index for 1999 to 2001 compared to the most recent partial, three year period 2002 to 2004 illustrates the drop in white shrimp prices in recent years.

The Shell-on White Index is an indication of the average value for all counts of shrimp in relation to the weighted value of each size as a proportion of the total Black Tiger shell-on import breakdown as reported by the US, Dept. of Commerce. That is, 16-20 count shrimp may have a high value but imports of that size may only make up a small portion of the breakdown. Whereas 51-60 count shrimp with a lower price may be weighted higher than 16-20 count due to its greater breakdown of the total.
