A central focal point of recent trade dialogue is tom breast meat, and with good reason. Since the year’s outset, Urner Barry's fresh quotation has packed on an additional $2.70/lb., which easily propelled this line into all-time-high territory since late April of this year. With traditional further processing demand continuing to ramp up in a seasonal manner, and given the thinly dispersed supply standing of this segment, players are turning to the stats as they attempt to hone their expectations for the months ahead. Despite 2022’s record-setting price points, tom breast meat continues to exbibit signs of seasonal market behavior. Between July and the period when values historically reach their peak in mid-October, Urner Barry’s spot quotations have risen by an average of 13.2% over the past decade. Some years, such as 2015 when HPAI-induced flock losses were evident in the field, spot values advanced by a more substantial 17.2% during a similar timeframe.
